At the beginning of the year there was nothing passed on to me by the previous FIPAT team. My emails to the previous chair were ignored and my conversations with Professor Paul Neumann were unhelpful. My efforts to communicate with the management of the TA2 online viewer were refused, citing that they would only communicate with Paul Neumann. However, in 2025, despite these difficulties, FIPAT has managed to:
- canvas IFAA member societies concerning TA2 and the changes in Latin style from TA1(98). Of those societies which use the Latin terminology directly, the majority would like to revert to the style of terms in TA1(98). As a result Professors Hans ten Donkelar and David Kachlik have kindly been working on TA2, reverting the terms to the original style. The plan is to publish this as TA2.5 when complete.
- create a group to look at Terminologia Oroanatomica, generously headed by Professor Bernard Moxham. Their work continues.
- send the current version of Terminologia Anthropologica to the IFAA member societies asking them to look at it with a view to expanding the terms and correcting if needed. The societies were also asked to provide names of willing experts prepared to work on this terminology.
- hold email discussions with Professor Ivan Varga concerning the 2nd edition of Terminologia Histologica. These discussions are ongoing.
I was able to attend in person and report to the EXCO meeting in July in Lisbon.
I am grateful for the help and support provided by the President, Professor Helen Nicholson and the Immediate Past President, Professor Beverley Kramer who have enabled me to get acquainted with the more up-to-date situation with FIPAT that I inherited on my appointment as Interim Chair.
