The Italian Society of Anatomy and Histology mourns the sudden death of its member, Professor Sergio Morini, who died on 16 March 2022.
Prof. Morini was born in Milan in 1958. He graduated in Medicine and Surgery in 1986 at Sapienza University of Rome and specialized in Sports Medicine in 1989 at the University “G.D. D’Annunzio” Chieti, Italy. He has been a Visiting Research Fellow at the T.E. Transplantation Institute of the University of Pittsburgh (USA) and at the Division of Transplant Surgery of the University of Illinois in Chicago (USA). His interest for Human Anatomy began in 1988 as Voluntary Assistant; in 2018 he became full professor in Human Anatomy at University Campus Bio-Medico of Rome, wherein he was Vice-dean of the Faculty of Medicine.
The research activity of Prof. Morini focused on the study of the mechanisms of hepatic fibrogenesis and the pathophysiology of the biliary tract. He was Editor in Chief of the “Journal of Digestive Disease and Hepatology”.
He was a Member of the Italian Association for the Study of the Liver (AISF), Italian Society of Anatomy and Histology (SIAI), and Italian Delegate at the International Federation of Associations of Anatomists (IFAA).
